A fake Christmas tree when you grew up with real tree purists

I can’t believe how excited I am about this fake Christmas tree. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where there are Christmas tree farms and cut tree lots everywhere and you can have the magical experience of getting your own… But as an adult having kids and a million things to do and stressful communication with my husband, I grew to really dislike and almost fear the experience. I have some really bad memories of the last few times we tried before we separated.

Well, a couple years ago I realized, I’m a single mom now and I get to choose what works for me and my family! I am shedding the guilt and creating new magical traditions with my kids with fake trees! Without all the stress and mess! And I just got a really wonderful one.

Realistic Pre-lit Christmas Tree

I’m really excited about this tree because it has the more bare fir look of some of the beautiful real trees, but it's fake and pre-lit. Honestly, those firs at Christmas tree yards are like $150 so I’ve never bought one even when buying real trees… But I love the look! This 7.5' Rushmore Fir Artificial Christmas Tree 750 Warm White LED Lights from King of Christmas has the slightly more bare branches, plus, my favorite feature: plastic fronds as well as the fabric ones that the cheaper trees will be exclusively.

You can see the texture up close, most of what’s giving it its look are the plastic ones that are shaped like realistic fir tree branches.

I chose the pre-lit version because I’ve learned that what you really want to make a Christmas tree special is a LOT of lights. I will add lights to this one, plus I’m even going to do these candle lights this year! But the pre-lit gives it a glow all over.

This tree was super easy to put up and because of those plastic shaped branches, took a lot less fluffing than a cheaper tree. It’s a base plus three pieces and I was totally able to move it around and set it up quickly myself--essential when you’re a busy mom and it’s much easier to move things around when the kids are not there!

It comes with a remote control so you can turn the lights on and try the different settings. I’m sure the kids will enjoy that. It also comes with a sturdy storage bag and it’s really easy to collapse the three pieces and pack it away.

Rant: Since I've had a fake tree for the past couple years now I just feel so lucky that I don’t have to deal with ANY of that stress of a real tree ever again! It’s always cold and raining when you try to get it, you have to have them bail it for you or strap it to the car, but you still end up with pine needles everywhere, including in the car, if you don’t put it in water right away it starts to dry out so you have to finish up as soon as you get home when you’re wet and tired. We’ve actually scraped the ceiling before with the top of the tree if it was a little on the tall side. And then you have to water it! Like all the time! And you still get pine needles literally everywhere! I have found them six months after Christmas sometimes, even with plenty of vacuuming. The water in the base gets on the presents and soaks the tree skirt. We had this really nice tree stand that didn’t fit with a lot of tree skirts or those cute collars. And then, of course you have to deal with getting rid of it after the season. (All of this is much harder when you have a bad marriage and you and your husband are stressed out each other for a lot of the time as well, so I imagine that everyone has that constraint, but still…) I am appreciating the freedom of a fake tree!
