Mini home tour & our fave big-ticket home decor purchases!
When we moved into this house 2 years ago we were starting from scratch on a lot of things. We sold a bunch of furniture and moved the rest of our stuff into a storage unit after selling our last house, while waiting on this one. It was pretty empty here for a while! It took some time to find the right items to replace old stuff with, but now when I look around our house I see quite a few pieces I'm really happy to own.
I also got this rug pad--plush but also nonstick!
Favorite big-ticket home decor purchases/items
Let's start in the living room. This is one of our newer home decor items--I replaced the rug we had in here with something more neutral and I love it! (I shared about it here, and here's a link to this exact rug.) It's actually more tan than the beige-ey grey it looks in these photos. I love the neutral brown/tan and little bits of blue. It looks kind of like an old vintage Turkish rug with low pile. This brand/line of rugs are really popular right now but I don't like having the same exact product as everyone else, so I chose this one for something a little different (I haven't seen this one around Instagram as much as some!)

Next, in the dining room, I LOVE this chandelier. It's one of the coolest things we own. I'd seen it in a designer's home on Instagram and while her home is more modern than ours, most of the elements in our 1937 home's dining room are original or traditional, so I thought this fixture would be a great balance. Post all about our dining room and this update here, exact fixture here. Here are the bulbs.
Not quite in the same category, but really one of my favorite things--it's silly, but I just love this simple, basic, mass-market bathroom vanity in our downstairs/main bath! You can easily spend $1,000 on even a small bathroom vanity--this one was a great price and I changed out the hardware to make it look more unique. It has great storage and is so cute and fresh! (You can see more of this bathroom reno here--it was a BIG project.)
Back to furniture and rugs. I LOVE the striped rug in our bedroom. It was in our dining room till we redid the kitchen and switched things up and I loved it there, too. It is real wool (I am really picky and generally only want natural fiber rugs), flat weave (it doesn't shed!!!!! Almost all wool rugs do, but not this one!), beautiful neutral colors, goes with everything, fun stripe that can go modern or traditional, and only around $160 for an 8'x10'. It is just incredible!! I wish I needed another one!! :P
Also in our bedroom, sharing some more love for our Lucid mattress. We got it when we redid this room for the fall 2018 One Room Challenge. Lucid was the only online mattress brand I could find that offered options for different firmness! So many of those bed-in-a-box companies are highly rated but only have a couple of options. We chose the 10" latex hybrid mattress, which is medium-firm. I like a firmer bed and it helps with my ongoing minor back issues. This thing is almost 2 years old now and we still LOVE it!!
Finally, on my mind now because we're expecting baby #2 in less than a month... the rocking chair we have in Otto's nursery. It's not the most designer high-end chair, but it is SO comfortable and we sit and rock in it still before every bedtime and nap. He's 2 years and 4 months, almost, and I can't imagine not using this thing with him still! Think we're going to need another rocker for baby girl's room, whenever we set that up!
I stalked this thing and debated for a long time before pulling the trigger--spending another $300 when you're expecting a baby or have a newborn isn't always easy. But turns out it was worth every penny.
There you have it, our favorite big-ticket items for this home so far!
