WELCOME

Hello! I'm Suzannah, a serious DIYer and mom of two little ones. Follow along with my DIY fixer upper house renovations, sewing and crafty projects, real food recipes, and de-stressing goals.
I believe you can love your home just the way it is, AND have the power to design and make big changes to make it better.
I'm also the author of DIY Wardrobe Makeovers!

June is wedding month! Calling all DIY brides!

June is known as the best month for weddings, right?  In Oregon June is still rainy but I know other parts of the country are enjoying lovely weather and seeing lots of weddings, and I see and hear about weddings all the time this time of year!

You may be following my wedding plans and projects, in preparation for my August 6th wedding.  It's coming up so soon!!  I am getting really excited, but still have lots of DIY projects to do.

Rest assured I will be keeping you updated regularly.  I am making all five of my bridesmaids' dresses, our CD favor fabric covers, the groomsmen's bowties, triangle-shaped hanging bunting and banners, my veil, oh--and, of course, my dress!  I will probably find other projects to do before then, too.  I'll be posting even more frequently about my wedding progress as the date gets closer!

Some of you have commented that you did lots of DIY projects for your weddings, and some of you are also getting married this year and have great plans!  Some of you made your dresses and have shared links to your wedding photos--I love seeing all of them!

What I would love to do is collect photos and stories from other talented and ambitious brides (past, present, and future!).  I've started a Flickr group where you can upload pics!!  Adventures in Dressmaking DIY Wedding Month will collect the photos, and I will be so excited to do posts sharing them here on the blog (during this festive wedding month and leading up to my wedding in August!).

So dig through those photo archives, if need be, and upload pics of the things you made for your wedding!

  1. Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you. I've never done anything for weddings, but I do a lot of dressmaking/sewing.

I love your blog so much. So glad I found it :)

  5. How fun! I did a bunch of DIY stuff for our destination beach wedding in January and for our at home reception in April. I'll be sure to look through my photos and post them along with my techniques.

If you're interested, here is a recap of our wedding in Mexico. http://secretlifeofd.com/2011/04/our-mexican-wedding-adventure/ I have not posted anything about our at home reception yet or specific projects, but your post here will inspire me to do so. Thanks!

  9. Hi! I just posted a whole bunch of photos of my DIY wedding projects on the Flickr group. It makes me tired just looking at it, but we had a great time! Can't wait to see everyone's photos. And I love watching your dress progress!

  10. My wedding is August 13th, granted i don't do alot of sewing, but i am trying to manage making my garter and veil. Two things that seem to be easy enough for a beginner. :) I've been trying to blog about my wedding at times too at: http://blacklittlebutton.blogspot.com :)
