Back to Oregon...
And now we're home again!
I just got back last night from a 7-day road trip from Oregon to a family reunion in Custer, SD, as I mentioned last week. More pictures later (the above is a pic of buffalo in Custer State Park in the Black Hills as we drove along), but I'll tell you I did wear a lot of American West-ey clothes that I made myself, as I hoped to do and blogged about last week here and here. I know, I'm a little bit ridiculous. One of my aunts complimented my outfit on the trip, and I said thanks!, I've been trying to dress sort of South Dakota-ey. I know it sounds stupid but I really care about dressing appropriately for the time and place!
On the trip, I saw/felt/experienced...
- 2,600 miles
- 8 bug bites
- 5 squished skunks
- hundreds of buffalo
- 1 raven
- 12 copies of InStyle, Lucky, Glamour, ElleDecor, and People Style Watch I'd received since June but hadn't had time to read until the car ride
- 3 hotel clerks answering "No, we don't recycle here." (we toted wine bottles across the country back to Oregon to recycle them).
- 1/2 mile of 300+ million year old cave at Wind Cave
- 46 hours in the car
- 5 hotel beds
- only 1 funky sunburn
- 20 relatives I don't see often!
Whew! I am very glad to be here at my kitchen table writing to you again, looking out the window at the creek and Oregon sunshine. Now I have to get back to my normal routine... hope to pick more berries this week, go to some random but important appointments, and look up some books I read about in all my magazines! And, of course, sew. ;)
Hope you had a great weekend and week, and would love to hear about your summer vacations this year!
How fun! It's always great to catch up with family, but it definately does make you appreciate home!
ReplyDeleteLove the buffalo...how random!
Sounds like a great trip! I love to see the buffalo, so amazing. I had to laugh about the recycling thing. I do the same thing or I feel insanely guilty. I don't understand why it can be so common one place while others seem to ignore it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your trip. We had our trip in your hometown and looove the greenry and weather! XOXO
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had fun! I could never read in the car, so I always get insanely bored. What cool things you saw, and LOL at the recylcing!
